Making the most of education – looking beyond 18

You will want to start thinking about your choices at 18 some time before you get there. If you want to carry on studying full-time after 18, you will generally be looking at a higher education course at university or college, in the UK or abroad.

You can also choose to study part-time; either in a formal higher level apprenticeship, or by learning on the job, formally or informally.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both routes, and you should think very carefully about what is best for you. Some people assume that university is not for them; others think it’s the only option.

Don’t assume anything and do your research properly. Read our pages on whether or not to go to university, worries about going to university, and preparing for the next exciting stage in your life.
